Firstly I must say it is great to have you on board one of the fastest growing societies on campus. Not only are we pleased to have you, but you should be pleased to have joined us at such an exciting time for economists. The market is up one day and down the next. Interest rates are nearing historic lows and within months they are being raised again due to inflationary pressures from both internal and external sources.

Although the name may suggest we are a society about economics we are as much a society for economists, econometricians, anybody who has an interest in business in general and anybody who wants to enjoy themselves amongst great people.

Boasting over 1000 members in 2009 we are hoping to continue to expand our membership base throughout 2010 to make our society one of the biggest and best in the Economics and Business Faculty, and the University in general.

As the social calendar shows our society prides itself on integration between students in different stages of their degree. We hold frequent BBQ’s, bar-tabs at Herman's, trivia nights and the like.

Our aim for 2010 is to continue to build both the social and educational framework of our society, increasing the resources being allocated to careers, education and academic pursuits such as internal university debates.

All I hope is that your experience within the society is as enjoyable as the experiences I have had over the course of my degree, and will continue to have throughout 2010.

Peace out and hopefully we will talk soon,

        Matthew Quinn

President of the Sydney University Economics and Econometrics Society.
